An Investment in Knowledge pays the best interest.

Do I have to pay for the first meeting?

The 30 minute introductory meeting is free. We can meet by phone or in person. The purpose of this meeting is to get to know each other and figure out if we’d like to work together.

We will talk about your financial concerns and how the Cairn planning process works. Financial planning is a very personal process, so it’s important to work with a planner who makes you feel comfortable.

Do I need a certain amount of investment dollars or net worth in order to work with you?

Cairn doesn’t have an asset minimum; we accept clients at all asset levels. We do have an annual fee minimum of $3000/year for our ongoing services, which can be paid as a percentage of assets*; in a monthly or quarterly payment; or as a mix with a portion paid as a percent of assets and the remainder paid as a monthly payment from your checking account. If this annual fee does not make sense for your situation, you may wish to consider one of our Planning Packages or a limited scope project.

Who is your typical client?

Most of my clients fall into one of these two categories:

1. Career professionals with families trying to juggle the multiple demands of planning for college and retirement, while balancing multiple demands on their time and money.

2. Divorcing or recently divorced women trying to understand their financial situation and rebuild their finances on their own for the next phase of their journey.

Who is NOT a good fit for Cairn?

Cairn is not in the business to pick the next hot stock or actively trade your portfolio. At Cairn, we take a long range investing approach based on your risk profile and timeline. Your investment potfolio is a piece of the overall financial plan.

What does a financial planner do?

A Financial Planner provides two main benefits to clients: knowledge and behavior management. The knowledge, such as information about investing, taxes, college funding, estate planning, and insurance, you can learn on your own – if you have the time and interest to educate yourself. Managing behavior and emotions is more difficult, and it can really help to have someone to keep you motivated and focused.

Do I have to live in Colorado?

If you live in Colorado, we can meet virtually (using videoconferencing software) or in-person. Many local clients like to meet in person for the first few meetings, but then switch to virtual meetings after the first month or two. If you are not in Colorado, no problem; We can meet by videoconferencing, which can feel very connected and personal.

If I sign up for Comprehensive Financial Planning, how often will we meet?

During the first few months that we’re working together, we’ll meet regularly to get organized, talk about goals, and build your financial plan. Once the initial plan is in place, we will typically meet every 4-6 months, although I’m always available for a quick phone call or meeting on any financial related questions that come up for you. At a minimum, we’ll connect twice a year to update and review your plan.
